A healthier twist on classic banana bread, made with ripe bananas, whole wheat flour, and no refined sugar.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • Optional: nuts or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy.
  3. Combine the mashed bananas with honey (or maple syrup), applesauce, and vanilla extract.
  4. Sprinkle in the baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, mixing well.
  5. Fold in the whole wheat flour until just combined.
  6. Add optional nuts or chocolate chips and mix them in.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
