A beloved Italian dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone that perfectly balances rich flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisking the egg yolks and sugar until smooth. Stir in the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, mix the cooled egg yolk mixture with mascarpone until smooth. Fold in the whipped cream.
  3. Combine the espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  4. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone on top.
  5. Cover the tiramisu and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes, or overnight. Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

Consider using pasteurized eggs for safety. Ladyfingers can be substituted with sponge cake or pound cake.
